Problem
As partisanship continues to radicalize the political climate into a state of tribalism, misinformation has become an issue for all sides of the political compass. To make mattersworse, the concern over fake news has steadily deteriorated public trust in media. As a result,many struggling media channels are forced to pander through partial and opinionated reporting;this exacerbates the problem by mainstreaming echo chambers. With this issue, it has beenharder to evaluate political topics with impartiality and find common ground with their fellowhumans. There needs to be a way to better to discern the credibility of the news.
Solution:
People must hold themselves accountable for the information they consume. To aid with this, software may help scrutinize the news fairly. One possible way to accomplish this goalis through a browser extension. This extension will utilize Azure Functions and help discern thecredibility of channels and articles. By performing analyzing both the sentiment and politicalleaning of an article, users can better take control of information. The extension will also offeralternative coverings of articles from different perspectives.
Future expansions for this project could also utilize additional APIs to evaluate historic politicalleanings of both websites and writers. Expansions may also further develop the analysis by offering the user more through data on article topics and political leaning trends of the user.
