- It was hard for students to talk about their projects and get started/make progress
- show progress/talk through what they did this week
- setting concrete goals for each week
- set expectations for each mentor meeting (it was hard for him to talk to students, as they didn't seem to open up) require them to show progress (no matter how small) --> talk through the entire process they went through that week --> really try to gain industry experience from mentors
- having more structured meetings
- possible meeting structure: talk about progress --> questions --> open ended (any questions about CS) --> talking about progress for next week
- give content to mentors (make it more clear on what students are learning)
- people need help getting started (the students aren't approaching projects the right way? refer to 2nd section
- Have a different approach to starting projects
- the key is to have something small, but working, which can be built on later
- ex: have one backend service that connects to a static webpage. doesn't have to do everything the student wants it to, but at least has one working feature
- the purpose is to get progress no matter how small
He also liked the idea of students splitting up based off of level of experience. It would also be good if we had some way to gauge the general experience of each student, as this gives mentors an idea of what to talk about
